Femme Fatale Cosmetics asked me if I would like to do a guest blog post on their website, which of course I jumped at as I have been a long time customer of theirs. They sent me out products from various indie cosmetic brands that they stock for me to try and write an honest review on. You can read the full review on their blog – Guest Spot: Polish and Paws.

The products I reviewed are Femme Fatale Cosmetics The Masquerade eyeshadow, Detrivore Cosmetics Midnight eyeshadow, Darling Girl Obviously A Wig pigment, Medusa’s Makeup Dirty eye dust, Aromaleigh Cosmetics Ostara highlighter, Notoriously Morbid Night Kiss Lip Balm in Mourning In Paris, and Hello Waffle Cosmetics Andromeda and Lucy tinted lip balms.

I had only tried loose eyeshadows from Femme Fatale Cosmetics and Shiro Cosmetics before this, so it was great to see how the formulas of other indie cosmetic brands performed. In the end, I loved The Masquerade from Femme Fatale Cosmetics. It looks a bit plain in the container, but once swatched, it is has a purple to grey base with a pink shift that is easily seen with the naked eye – it’s just gorgeous. Darling Girl Obviously A Wig also has a lovely shift to it. Obviously A Wig has a magenta base colour, which is very pretty on it’s own but at certain angles it also has a blue shift. The formula that surprised me the most was from Medusa’s Makeup as the Dirty eye dust took no effort to apply as it stuck so well to the eye primer. The powder has an almost sticky texture (for a powder anyway) that allows the eyeshadow to easily adhere, resulting in very little fall out.

The Ostara highlighter by Aromaleigh Cosmetics was a lovely everyday highlight colour, but I wasn’t able to see the colour shift that the promotional photos show. In sunlight it has a lovely glow, but isn’t overly sparkly like some highlighters out there.

Notoriously Morbid Night Kiss Lip Balm in Mourning In Paris is a French Toast scented moisturising lip balm. The scent doesn’t remind me of French Toast, but the balm is nice to use, clear on the lips and the scent dissipates once applied to the lips.. I also tried two tinted lip balms from Hello Waffle Cosmetics in Andromeda and Lady. Andromeda is a lavender purple that doesn’t really suit my complexion, but some people will love it. Lady is a gorgeous red that looks great with no makeup or with a full face of makeup. They can take a few swipes to build up application and cover up any patchiness, but I like the formula. I think I will pick up a colour closer to my lip shade for those no makeup days.
