Femme Fatale Cosmetics Love Potion is a thermal polish from the limited edition Sweet Secrets Valentine Trio 2016. Femme Fatale describe it as a hot pink (cold state) to clear/french pink (hot state) thermal with brilliant gold-lime-blue shifting glass flakes.

Thermal polishes are some of my favourites to use but I haven’t worn one in a while so I decided to try Love Potion. To me, the hot state looks clear but has a pink shift that is easily seen. I still had a visible nail line in the cold state with three coats, and I’m not sure that four coats would make it any more opaque. The cold state is a hot pink, sometimes leaning red, and is opaque with three coats. The gold shimmer that leans slightly green is very prominent in both states. I found the shimmer to be a bit overwhelming at times because it took away from the thermal shift underneath.

Until this polish, I’ve never really understood what people were talking about when they described some thermals as hot or cold sensitive. This polish seemed very sensitive to heat for me. Often when I wear thermals, they change to the cold colour whenever I wash my hands in cool water, but this one didn’t. It has been warm here, but the day I took the photos it wasn’t overly hot, yet I needed to use an ice pack to see the hot pink colour. Therefore I think this would be a much better polish to wear during cooler months as you may see the colour change more often that way.

I have always wanted a light pink to hot pink thermal creme polish which is why I didn’t enjoy the shimmer in this polish as much as I think other people will. I really love seeing the contrast between the cold and warm states on one nail, but the shimmer dulled that for me. The formula itself however is really easy to use, not too thick or thin, and it didn’t flood my cuticles. If you are messy, clean up will be hard as the shimmers go everywhere, but the removal of the polish from the nail is easy – nothing like glitter bombs. I ordered two more thermal polishes from the recent Femme Fatale After-Light Gala Collection which I can’t wait to try. I love the gradient look that you can get with a thermal polish without having to mess around with sponges. Are you a thermal lover?
